On 11 March, 2015, the National Agro-Tech
Extension and Service Center (NATESC) made an announcement on occurrence of
major pests of wheat and rape in early spring of 2015. Accordingly, under the
comprehensive impact of high temperature and host growth stage in advance, the
major diseases and pests of spring wheat and rape occurred in advance, and the
occurrence degree was more serious than those of previous years when the
diseases and pests were prevalent.
Until 6 March, the accumulative stricken
areas of wheat aphid reached 1.02 million ha (15.29 million mu), up by 122.4%
year on year. Wheat aphid entered into thriving stage in Southwest China, and
it entered into incipient stage in the middle and lower reaches of Changjiang
River, Yangtze-Huaihe Region, Huang-huai Region, and southern North China.
The accumulative stricken areas of wheat
spider was 1.50 million ha (22.53 million mu) in China, an increase of 68.5%
over the same period of last year. Wheat spider occurred widely in
Yangtze-Huaihe Region, Huang-Huai Region and southern North China.
In addition, the stricken areas of rape
aphid was 0.67 million ha (10.04 million mu), with 4.7% year-on-year growth
rate; it occurred widespread in the main production area of autumn sowing rape,
and it occurred heavily in Southwest China.
